Friends of Ute Valley Park Kickoff

Friends of Ute Valley Park Earth Day Event

We held our first Earth Day Event on Saturday, April 20th at the Vindicator Entrance to Ute Valley Park. 40 people attended the two hour event that began with information from “Snook”, Ute Valley Park Ranger, Dan Woods, Friends of Ute Valley Park President, Christine Thomas, Volunteer Coordinator for FUVP and a number of representatives from Medicine Wheel Trail Advocates.

Topics included; staying on the trail, concerns about numerous social trails, keeping dogs on leash, picking up after your dog, ways people can communicate concerns about the park, future trail maintenance projects, and the history of the park.

Next, several volunteers worked on narrowing the main trail from the parking lot by spreading mulch. Another group took a walk with Christine Thomas to pick up garbage and look at areas of concern in the park. The group discovered a small fort with a fire pit that had been used. The city is now informed of the concern and the area will have to be demolished.

The purpose of the day was to inform the public that we are an official “friends” group with the city and that we would like to do what is best for Ute Valley Park and its many users. If you would like to receive emails on upcoming events, please join our email list. You can also join us on Facebook. If you have a question or a concern about the park, please use our contact page.

After Crew Leader Training by Christine and Nick, look for many projects in the park. We would love for everyone to join us.
